This development is expected to boost trade and tourism in the region, aligning with the government’s efforts to develop the country’s aviation sector. According to reports, the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority has already completed the master plan and preliminary engineering designs for the airport’s upgrade, which will enable Kasese Airport to handle larger aircraft.
The planned upgrade will see Kasese Airport achieve a category 4C rating, allowing it to accommodate aircraft such as the B737-500 series. This will not only enhance the airport’s capacity but also increase its appeal to airlines and passengers alike. The upgrade is part of a broader plan to develop upcountry airfields to international standards, with Arua and Gulu also earmarked for similar upgrades.
