The vehicles involved bear registration numbers SSD 521 BH, UA 740K, SSD 749 BN, and SSD 564 BE, and are currently parked at Kawempe Police Station pending further investigations.

According to Traffic Police Spokesperson, ASP Micheal Kananura, the drivers are expected to be arraigned in court on charges related to dangerous loading, a practice that continues to pose serious risks on Uganda’s roads.

“We commend the vigilant community member who alerted us. Public cooperation is critical in promoting road safety and preventing potential disasters,” Kananura said in a statement.

The Traffic Police warned motorists against the practice of overloading, which significantly increases the risk of tyre bursts, loss of control, and fatal crashes. “Overloading exerts excessive pressure on tires and compromises the stability of vehicles. This endangers not only the driver but also other road users,” Kananura added.

Kananura reiterated the police’s commitment to enforcing road safety regulations and called on all road users to adhere to traffic laws. “Let us work together to keep our roads safe for everyone,” the statement concluded.

This development follows renewed efforts by Uganda Police to crack down on reckless driving and vehicle misuse, particularly in transit routes to border regions.
