Forgery Storm Hits Kasambya Race: Muhumuza Blames Rival Plot

Independent Kasambya County MP aspirant Henry Muhumuza says he has been summoned by the Electoral Commission (EC) to respond to a petition accusing him of forging signatures used to secure his nomination.

The petition, filed by Musasizi Innocent and Philip Byamukama through M/S Signature Advocates, alleges that Muhumuza fraudulently used their signatures on his nomination forms. The EC is expected to hear the matter on Friday afternoon.

Speaking ahead of the session, Muhumuza denied the allegations, saying the complainants have long been his supporters and agents.

“One of them is my neighbour; the other was even my agent in the last NRM primaries,” he said. “It is shocking that the same people now say they never nominated me.”

Muhumuza claims the petition is part of a wider scheme by his rival, David Kabanda, the NRM flagbearer and incumbent MP, to have him removed from the race.

“They have been given money so that Kabanda goes unopposed,” he alleged. “If you want to be unopposed, you work for it. You don’t force people to withdraw.”

He further accused Kabanda of previously using intimidation in local politics, including incidents involving violence, damaged property, and alleged misuse of government resources during campaigns. Muhumuza said these actions had created an atmosphere of impunity in the constituency.

The aspirant urged the EC to remain impartial during the hearing.

“The EC is not part of this game. But individuals may be used to rule against us,” he said. “We are watching. The world is watching. Let competition be allowed.”

The EC tribunal is scheduled to sit at 3:30 pm today to consider the petition and determine whether Muhumuza’s nomination remains valid.
