A late-night fire tore through a row of kiosks in Kinawataka, Nakawa Division, leaving several small business operators counting losses as police begin investigations into the cause of the blaze.
The incident occurred around 10:00 PM on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, along the Ntinda-Kiwatule Road in Kinawataka, Bukoto II Parish, according to a statement released by the Kampala Metropolitan Police.

Police responded promptly after the blaze was reported at Ntinda Police Station. A fire rescue team from the Police Fire Prevention and Rescue Services was immediately deployed to the scene, managing to contain the flames before they could spread to nearby structures.
“There were no fatalities, but several businesses including coffee shops, food kiosks, and interior design enterprises were affected,” said ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police.
The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time. Police have launched a full investigation into the incident and have urged affected business owners and eyewitnesses to cooperate with the authorities.

“The investigation is ongoing, and we will provide further updates as the inquiry progresses,” Owoyesigyire noted.
The Kinawataka fire is the latest in a string of similar incidents impacting informal business hubs in Kampala, highlighting the vulnerability of makeshift business structures to fire hazards.
