Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Nandala Mafabi addressed a gathering of supporters in Amuru District under heavy rainfall on Friday, pledging to restore land and compensate farmers for livestock lost under government-led zero-grazing policies.
Speaking at the rally, Mafabi said the government must protect citizens and their property, particularly in areas where communities have lost thousands of cattle.
“Your land is being taken by a few people. They have now created zero grazing in your area. Your land must come back to you whether you like it or not. We have a plan on how you will have your land back,” Mafabi told the crowd.
He also criticized compensation mechanisms currently in place, which he described as inadequate, and vowed that under his government, farmers would receive compensation at current market prices.

“I know if your cows were here they would have been producing and their numbers would have grown. So, why get compensated with only five cows? You need a government which loves its people,” he added.
Mafabi further took aim at the incumbent government, accusing it of misusing funds on campaigns while neglecting basic support for citizens. He highlighted the contrast between spending billions on billboards and providing essential farming support like tractors.
“Having made you poor, now they come here with T-shirts and UGX1,000. President Museveni has been here for 40 years. If they gave you tractors, wouldn’t you people be better off?” Mafabi said.
The FDC leader also outlined plans to ensure farmers’ produce is purchased and insured, promising that losses would be covered by insurance companies, thereby safeguarding livelihoods.
“We need you to have money in your pockets. Whatever you will produce will be bought. You will lose nothing as long as you harvest it. If you happen to lose, the insurance companies will compensate,” he said.
The rally drew hundreds of supporters despite the downpour, with many viewing the rain as a blessing, a sentiment echoed by Gilbert Olanya, MP for Kilak County South, who accompanied Mafabi.
