Addressing the media at the party headquarters, party electoral chairman Boniface Toterebuka Bamwenda announced the fee alongside a detailed election roadmap that revealed the FDC’s strategy to democratically oust the ruling party NRM.
While presidential hopefuls must dig deep in their pockets and part with 5 million shillings, the party is waiving fees entirely for local councilor aspirants. The other fee structure shows MPs will pay Shs100,000, district chairpersons Shs50,000, and mayors Shs20,000 to secure nominations.
Bamwenda emphasized these costs are designed to ensure only committed candidates come forward.
Key dates in the FDC calendar show nominations for local councilors running June 6-7, followed by parliamentary and mayoral nominations June 9-10. The party roadmap also indicates that candidates from special interest groups youth, elderly, and PWD representatives have up to May 9 from the day of commencement of the exercise
“The key symbol of our party isn’t just decoration – it represents our mission to unlock Uganda’s potential through leadership at all levels,” Bamwenda told journalists at the party’s Najjanankumbi headquarters. He urged supporters to “flood the nomination process” and promised rigorous voter education campaigns ahead of the 2026 general elections.
