FDC Fronts Kalifah Aganaga For Kawempe North by-election

Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has officially endorsed renowned musician Mukiibi Sadat, popularly known as Kalifah Aganaga, as their flag bearer for the upcoming Kawempe North by-election. The announcement was made at the FDC headquarters in Najjanankumbi, where party leaders expressed confidence in Aganaga’s leadership potential.

FDC President Patrick Amuriat acknowledged initial reservations about fielding a candidate but emphasized that after thorough discussions, the party recognized Aganaga’s capabilities. “We have spoken to our brother Aganaga, and we have learned that beneath those dreadlocks, there is a competent leader, a great human,” Amuriat remarked, adding a personal touch by mentioning his own youthful consideration of growing dreadlocks, which elicited laughter from attendees.

Robert Centenary, FDC’s Deputy President for Western Uganda, defended the party’s choice by highlighting Aganaga’s impressive conduct and academic credentials. He drew parallels to the late Muhammad Ssegirinya’s political journey, stating, “The few hours I spent with Mukiibi Sadat impressed me—his conduct, his academic credentials. Sometimes we judge people at face value. I believe he is an inspiration to young people.” Centenary emphasized FDC’s history of nurturing leaders from diverse backgrounds.

Kalifah Aganaga, the CEO of Bad Character Records, previously sought a political platform with the National Unity Platform (NUP) for the Rubaga South constituency in 2021 but was not selected. He has since been vocal about his readiness to engage in politics with any party willing to support his vision for change.

The Kawempe North by-election has attracted significant attention, with multiple parties vying for the seat. The FDC’s endorsement of a prominent figure like Aganaga underscores the party’s strategy to appeal to younger voters and leverage his popularity to secure the constituency.

In addition to Aganaga’s endorsement, the FDC announced Sharif Ssebunya as its candidate for the vacant Kazo-Angola Ward councillor seat, signaling the party’s broader efforts to strengthen its representation at various levels of government.

As the by-election approaches, all eyes will be on Kawempe North to see how Aganaga’s candidacy influences the political landscape and voter dynamics in the constituency.
