“This time around, we are taking that Kawempe North seat,” Nambi said after collecting the forms, adding that the nomination process was seamless and well-organized.

Today marked the start of the nomination exercise for NRM members seeking to contest in the party’s internal primaries ahead of the 2026 elections. The winners in these primaries will carry the party flag during the national polls.

Nambi, who previously contested contested in the Kawempe north by elections after the seat fell vacant following the passing on of Muhammad Ssegirinya in January 2025. In the March by-election, Nambi lost to NUP’s Elias Nalukoola. However, she later petitioned court, citing irregularities, and last week the court annulled Nalukoola’s election, paving the way for another by-election.

Nambi acknowledged several service delivery challenges faced by the people of Kawempe North, including water shortages, blocked drainage, and high youth unemployment. Nambi promised to lobby for better government intervention and support if elected.

“This is about representing the people and negotiating with government for better services. We have over 38 ghettos in Kawempe North, and our young people need to be supported and guided away from crime towards productivity,” she noted.

The seat is currently vacant following the court’s nullification of Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola’s election. A by-election is expected in the coming months.
