Police in Luweero District have arrested a 26-year-old electrician over the vandalism of electricity wires from four utility poles in Kireku Parish, Kikyusa Subcounty.
The incident occurred at around midnight on August 10, 2025, when unknown suspects allegedly cut wires from the poles, plunging parts of the area into darkness. One resident in Ssenyomo Zone A initially thought the outage was due to routine load shedding, but the following morning, churchgoers discovered the wires lying on the ground. Residents later confirmed that four poles had been vandalised and reported the matter to Kikyusa Subcounty Police Station.

Following investigations, police arrested Katamba Charles, a resident of Kiwanguzi Zone, Kireku Parish. He is accused of making illegal electricity connections at his home and several neighbouring premises. A search of his residence reportedly led to the recovery of stolen electric wires.
Authorities say such acts threaten the integrity of the electricity distribution network and pose safety risks to the public.
Police have urged communities to be vigilant and report suspicious activities near electricity installations particularly individuals working without proper identification or official vehicles, operating at unusual hours, or carrying suspicious tools.
They also warned against engaging uncertified electricians and appealed to the public to report illegal power connections to police and relevant agencies, including the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL).
