Addressing the media at the Commission headquarters on Wednesday, EC Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi said the changes were made to enable members of the affected categories to fully participate in the general elections under universal adult suffrage, while also effectively taking part in their respective electoral college elections.

Justice Byabakama emphasized that the polling dates for all other elective positions remain unchanged, as earlier provided for in the electoral roadmap issued by the Commission.
He urged all stakeholders, including political parties, candidates and voters in the affected categories, to take note of the revised dates and prepare accordingly.
The EC chairperson said the Commission remains committed to organizing free, fair and credible elections and will continue to engage stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation of the electoral roadmap.
The adjustments come as the Commission intensifies preparations for the 2026 polls, which include voter education, stakeholder engagement and the deployment of new technologies aimed at enhancing transparency and efficiency in the electoral process.
