The body, which was in an advanced state of decomposition, was found dressed in a navy-blue student skirt labeled “Nanyonga VII. Police say the inscription suggested the victim could have been a student.

Because of the state of the remains, mortuary staff in Kayunga buried the body shortly after recovery. However, as the missing-person investigation intensified, detectives sought and secured a court order to exhume the remains for proper identification.

DNA samples were subsequently collected and sent to the Forensics Directorate in Naguru, where results confirmed that the recovered body was that of the missing student.
