Democratic Front Sets Modest Nomination Fees Ahead of 2026 Elections

The Democratic Front (DF) has announced its official nomination requirements and fees for aspirants seeking to run on its ticket in the upcoming 2026 General Elections.

Speaking during a party briefing titled “Presidential, Parliamentary and Local Government General Lecture,” DF Secretary General Michael Mabikke revealed that over 300 individuals had already picked nomination forms within just a few days of the process opening.

He explained that all aspiring candidates are required to present their National Identity cards and academic qualifications when collecting nomination forms. Mabikke emphasized the importance of fielding credible leaders who meet the legal and educational requirements, particularly for higher-level positions such as President, Member of Parliament, and LC5 Chairperson.

To ease participation and promote inclusivity, DF has introduced what it calls affordable nomination fees. For local council aspirants at the LC1 level, nomination is completely free. Candidates for LC chancellor positions will pay UGX 10,000, while those vying for LC3 or sub-county chairperson roles will pay UGX 20,000.

For municipality mayoral aspirants, the fee is UGX 70,000. Those contesting for city or KCCA chancellor positions will pay UGX 50,000, while city mayors and district chairpersons will contribute UGX 100,000.

Parliamentary hopefuls will pay UGX 150,000, and those seeking the DF presidential flag will be required to contribute UGX 500,000.

Mabikke contrasted these fees with those of other political parties, some of which he said charge millions for nomination. “Some are asking for 10 to 20 million shillings, but we’re only asking for 500,000. Anyone with leadership ambition should not be locked out because of money,” he said.

He added that the collected fees will help support party operations, noting that as a young organisation, DF relies heavily on member contributions to sustain its activities.

The Democratic Front aims to field candidates at all levels in 2026 and says it is committed to building quality leadership across Uganda.
