After decades of anticipation, the construction of Bunyoro Public University is finally set to commence. The project, which will be undertaken by the UPDF Engineering Brigade, will be located at Bulera Core Primary Teachers College in Hoima City.
Lt. Col. Kidemuka announced that initial efforts will focus on project design, site clearing, road development leading to the site, and the extension of water and electricity services. “We will begin with the project design, site preparation, and the development of access roads, along with extending water and electricity to the site,” Lt. Col. Kidemuka said.
Surveyors and consultants have already been deployed to carry out the necessary surveys, which will inform the creation of detailed drawings and designs. Quantity surveyors will then draft the necessary bills for submission to relevant authorities. Lt. Col. Kidemuka assured that the UPDF Engineering Brigade is committed to delivering a high-quality project. The official groundbreaking ceremony, to be presided over by the President, is scheduled for November 15 this year.
Mr. Badru Mugabi, the Hoima RCC, emphasized that the involvement of the UPDF Engineering Brigade would streamline the planning and early work for the university’s construction. Tom Mbazira, Manager of the National Water and Sewerage Corporation in Hoima, and Ronald Benon Bisingirwa, Network Engineer for UMEME overseeing Hoima and Masindi, both pledged their support to ensure the project’s success.
The Bunyoro Public University will operate with constituent colleges in Kiryandongo District (Uganda Petroleum Institute Kigumba) and Kakumiro District (Birembo Technical Institute), with its main campus situated in Hoima City at Bulera Core PTC. This development marks the realization of a long-held aspiration of the Bunyoro people, a vision that has been in the making for over 30 years.
