In a statement issued on Friday, police said the only notable incident was a fire outbreak in Kajjansi Police Division, Kampala Metropolitan South, in the early hours of December 26.
The fire occurred at Kitende in Kajjansi Town Council, Wakiso District, and destroyed a six-room residential house occupied by a tenant and her family. Police said all nine occupants escaped unharmed.
A team of detectives, Scenes of Crime Officers (SOCO), and the Fire Brigade responded promptly, secured the scene, and launched investigations. While the cause of the fire is yet to be established, preliminary findings point to a suspected electrical fault. Inquiries are ongoing.
Police also reported that Boxing Day activities across Entebbe Division and other parts of the Kampala Metropolitan Area attracted large crowds, particularly at music concerts, beaches, entertainment venues, and places of worship.
These events were held at Imperial Resort Beach Hotel, Aero Beach, Lido and White Sand beaches, Kitubulu Public Beach, Nkumba and Manyago beaches, Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC), and Victoria Mall. All events ended peacefully under close police supervision.
According to police, both overt and covert officers were deployed along major routes, beaches, landing sites, and entertainment areas to ensure public safety. Kampala Metropolitan Police worked jointly with sister security agencies, including the UPDF and Aviation Police, whose support enhanced overall security coverage.
Only isolated incidents were recorded during the period, including one injury case at Aero Beach, one fatal road accident, one serious accident, and four minor accidents.
Police also arrested several suspected phone snatchers, including a known criminal who operates in Kisenyi and is locally known as “Makona.” The suspects were detained as investigations continue.
Overall, police said crime and accident levels were significantly lower compared to previous festive seasons.
Kampala Metropolitan Police said security operations remain in place as celebrations continue towards the New Year, assuring the public that the situation remains stable across the metropolitan area.
The statement was issued by ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police.
