Arua City has acquired a brand-new motor grader worth UGX 1.2 billion, financed entirely from locally generated revenue. The machine was officially commissioned today by the Minister for Local Government, Raphael Magyezi.
Magyezi praised the city for prioritizing investment in infrastructure, noting that the grader belongs to the residents of Arua and should be well-maintained, safeguarded, and put to proper use. He added that the government intends to equip all cities with road machinery to boost accessibility and improve service delivery.

In the last financial year (2024/2025), Arua City raised UGX 6.7 billion in local revenue and is targeting UGX 7.5 billion this year. With this purchase, Arua joins Lira, Mbale, Mbarara, Nansana, Makindye, and Kira, which have also procured road equipment using their own resources.
City Clerk Kyasanku David described the grader as a turning point for Arua, which oversees more than 550 kilometers of road network. He explained that in the past, the city depended on borrowed graders from Obongi and neighboring districts, or hired equipment at UGX 1.5 million per day, a cost he called unsustainable.
According to Kyasanku, the new grader will help the city open and maintain more roads leading to schools, hospitals, and markets, thereby improving connectivity and service delivery.
The commissioning ceremony, held at the City headquarters, was attended by officials from the Ministry of Local Government’s Urban Administration Department, local technical and political leaders, private sector representatives, and members of the community.
