Are You Hiring The Pope? MP Odur Questions DPP’s Thanksgiving Budget

Erute South MP Jonathan Odur has raised eyebrows over Jane Francis Abodo’s office (Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecution’s ODPP) proposal to allocate funds for a thanksgiving ceremony in the upcoming budget.

Odur’s concerns were voiced during the scrutiny of the 2025/26 Ministerial Policy Statement for the DPP at parliament on Tuesday 1st April 2025.

“What are you thanking God for?” Odur asked, highlighting the irony of the DPP’s proposal. “Are you hiring a bishop or the Pope? Are you thanking God for the persecution that we have seen and how people are suffering?”

Odur’s questions were met with silence, prompting him to wonder if the thanksgiving ceremony was merely an avenue for the DPP to justify its actions.

Odur also accused the DPP of unprofessionalism and turning their office into a venue for settling political scores. He questioned the officials present if any of them had ever been charged with a criminal offense, to which none responded.

The MP also rejected the proposed budget for the DPP’s inspection and quality assurance department, citing concerns over the office’s ability to ensure prosecutors adhere to professional standards.
