Alien Skin Declares End to NRM Affiliations, Aligns with Opposition Movement
Renowned Ugandan musician Alien Skin has made a bold announcement, severing all ties with individuals affiliated with the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM). The artist shared his decision on his social media platforms, declaring his firm stance against any political associations with the NRM.
“From today onward, NRM officials are not welcome in my home, office, or any part of my space unless you’re a fan,” Alien Skin stated emphatically.
He further added, “Those who booked me for your political campaigns, you can come and collect your money back. I will no longer be associating with NRM officials in any capacity.”
Recently, the musician signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with former Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga, now a prominent figure in the Democratic Alliance (DA)—a coalition dedicated to unseating the NRM-led government in the forthcoming elections.
The partnership with Mpuuga and the Democratic Alliance signifies a significant shift in Alien Skin’s public image, aligning him with Uganda’s opposition movement. While the details of the MOU remain undisclosed, sources close to the alliance suggest that Alien Skin’s cultural influence will play a pivotal role in mobilizing the youth and amplifying the coalition’s agenda.
Alien Skin’s move has sparked widespread debate in both the entertainment and political spheres. Known for his relatable lyrics and grassroots appeal, the musician has built a reputation as a voice for ordinary Ugandans. His decision to distance himself from the ruling party underscores a growing trend of artists leveraging their platforms for political expression.
Political analysts believe this move could resonate with Uganda’s younger demographic, many of whom are disillusioned with the current political establishment. “Alien Skin’s influence could bring a new dynamic to the opposition’s campaigns,” noted one analyst.
Reactions Pour In
The announcement has elicited mixed reactions online. Supporters of the opposition have hailed Alien Skin’s decision as a courageous stand against what they perceive as political complacency in the arts.
Conversely, NRM supporters have criticized the musician for politicizing his craft, arguing that art should remain neutral. Some have also questioned whether Alien Skin’s decision was influenced by financial or political incentives from the opposition coalition.
What Lies Ahead?
As the 2026 elections approach, Alien Skin’s alignment with the Democratic Alliance is likely to draw significant attention. While the musician has not disclosed whether he intends to participate directly in political activities, his influence as a cultural icon may prove instrumental in swaying public opinion.
Alien Skin’s declaration marks another chapter in the evolving intersection of Uganda’s entertainment and political landscapes. Whether his decision will inspire other artists to follow suit remains to be seen, but for now, Alien Skin has firmly positioned himself as a figure of resistance in Uganda’s socio-political narrative.
