Dr Frank Nabwiso Passes Away at 83: A Loss to Busoga’s Rich Cultural Heritage

Dr. Frank Nabwiso, a renowned historian, scholar, and politician, has passed away at Mukono Church of Uganda Hospital after a prolonged illness. His wife, Christine Nabwiso, confirmed his death.

Dr. Nabwiso was a highly respected figure in Uganda, admired for his intellectual prowess and commitment to public service. He served as the Member of Parliament for Kagoma County in Jinja District from 2001 to 2006, losing his seat in 2006 to Fredrick Nkayi in a closely contested election.

In 2021, Dr. Nabwiso contested for the Jinja City mayoral seat under the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) flag but came in second to Peter Kasolo Okocha of the National Unity Platform (NUP). At the time of his death, he was a member of the FDC’s special Elders’ Council, playing a crucial role in resolving internal party disputes.

Notably, Dr. Nabwiso chaired the committee that investigated allegations of FDC leadership receiving government campaign funds for the 2021 general elections. His report ultimately cleared top party officials Nathan Nandala Mafabi and Patrick Amuriat of any wrongdoing.

Dr. Nabwiso’s legacy is marked by his vast knowledge of history, his dedication to democratic values, and his tireless commitment to public service. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the community he served.

As a historian, Dr. Nabwiso made significant contributions to the field, including documenting the history of Jinja City. His work will continue to inspire future generations of scholars and politicians.

Funeral arrangements for Dr. Nabwiso are yet to be announced.
