Kampala, Uganda– The late Joseph Tamale Mirundi, the former Senior Presidential Press Secretary, will be laid to rest on Sunday, August 18, 2024, according to a burial program released by Haji Faruk Kirunda, Deputy Press Secretary to the President.
Mr. Mirundi, who passed away on August 13, 2024, at Kisubi Hospital after being hospitalized for over a month, will be honored with a series of memorial services and vigils leading up to his burial.
The funeral events will commence with a vigil and mass at his Zana residence on Wednesday, August 14. The following day, Thursday, August 15, a requiem mass will be held at St. Gyaviira Catholic Church in Bunamwaya at 10:00 AM. After the service, the body will be returned to his Zana residence for an overnight vigil.
On Friday, August 16, the body will be taken to his Kyengera residence for another mass at 10:00 AM, followed by an overnight vigil. The final journey will begin on Saturday, August 17, when the body will be transported to Kalagala Village in Kaliisizo, Rakai District, where a vigil will be held.
The burial ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, August 18, at 10:00 AM in Kalagala Village, Kaliisizo, Rakai District. Mr. Mirundi’s passing marks the end of an era for the veteran journalist and political commentator, whose contributions to Uganda’s media and political landscape have left an indelible mark.
