The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has mandated a public display of candidates’ registration lists for the 2024 examinations, running from August 12 to October 11, 2024. This initiative aims to enhance transparency and enable parents to verify their children’s registration status.
Heads of examination centers are required to post the candidates’ registers prominently on school notice boards. This step is intended to help parents confirm their children’s registration early, preventing complications with unregistered students during the exam period. UNEB’s Executive Director, Dan Odongo, underscored the importance of this process, stating, “The candidates’ registers should be displayed in a conspicuous place at the school notice boards where the candidates are registered.”
For students attending schools without UNEB center status, parents are advised to verify registration details directly with UNEB to avoid any last-minute issues. Odongo urged, “Parents of students studying in schools that do not have UNEB center status should establish where these students have been registered.”
To further simplify the verification process, UNEB will introduce an SMS option. Parents can check their child’s registration status by sending an SMS with the candidate’s index number to 6600. Odongo noted, “UNEB shall provide an SMS option on mobile telephones during the period of display.”
In addition, UNEB has emphasized the need for accurate biodata on the registers. Any discrepancies, such as incorrect names or dates of birth, must be corrected before the exams begin. For Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), amendments should be submitted through an online portal, while adjustments for Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) require a formal request with appropriate identification documents.
