President Ruto fires his cabinet to Address Key Issues

Kenyan President William Ruto has announced a significant reshuffle of his cabinet, marking the most extensive changes since he assumed office in 2022. This move comes amid increasing criticism over the government’s performance and its ability to address pressing issues such as the high cost of living and economic challenges.

In a sweeping overhaul, several key cabinet secretaries have been reassigned to new roles to streamline government functions and improve service delivery. Musalia Mudavadi, previously the Prime Cabinet Secretary, will now also head the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Affairs. This change merges the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary with the Foreign Affairs docket, placing additional responsibilities on Mudavadi and aiming to create a more efficient government structure

Dr. Alfred Mutua, who formerly served as the Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary, has been reassigned to lead the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife. Meanwhile, Moses Kuria, previously the Trade Cabinet Secretary, will now serve as the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Performance, and Delivery Management. These changes are part of President Ruto’s strategy to ensure that the cabinet is more effective in delivering on the government’s promises

Further significant changes include Rebecca Miano, formerly the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of East African Community and ASALs Development, being appointed as the new Trade Cabinet Secretary. Peninah Malonza will take over Miano’s previous role. Additionally, Aisha Jumwa, who headed the Public Service docket, will now lead the newly established Ministry of Gender

During a recent performance contract signing event, President Ruto expressed dissatisfaction with the current performance of his cabinet secretaries, highlighting the need for more knowledgeable and efficient leadership. This reshuffle aims to address these performance issues and improve the delivery of services across the country

President Ruto’s decision to reshuffle the cabinet underscores his commitment to fulfilling his campaign promises and tackling the pressing issues facing Kenya. The changes are expected to enhance the government’s capacity to address economic challenges and improve the overall quality of governance in the country
