By Paul Kyalimpa, Deputy Director General of the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA), tendered his resignation in mid-May 2024, as reported by Chimp Corps. In his resignation letter dated May 16, 2024, Kyalimpa cited the UIA Human Resource Manual 2021 in formally notifying his decision to step down from his role.
UIA has yet to issue an official statement regarding Kyalimpa’s departure. According to official records, UIA’s board chairman, Morrison Rwakakamba, received Kyalimpa’s resignation letter on May 20, 2024.
In his resignation letter, Kyalimpa explained that he intends to pursue professional training requiring intensive concentration and dedication for over a year. He also mentioned his plan to utilize his remaining annual leave for the Financial Year 2023/24 starting from May 27, 2024, after which he will return to facilitate the handover process.
Kyalimpa’s resignation coincides with heightened scrutiny at UIA, particularly regarding the alleged receipt of Shs. 545 million as ‘honoraria’ from funds designated for transport infrastructure construction in Namanve Industrial Park. This controversy has involved clashes with State Minister of Finance in charge of Privatisation, Evelyne Anite, who has demanded accountability from UIA’s top management.
Recently, Kyalimpa threatened legal action against Minister Anite for defamation after she implicated him in the saga. In response, Anite reiterated her commitment to defending Uganda’s taxpayers against corruption and misuse of public funds.
However, ChimpReports has since learned that Kyalimpa retracted his threats in a subsequent communication to Minister Anite, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve Uganda through UIA. He reaffirmed his pride in his contributions to UIA and Uganda as a whole, expressing readiness to continue supporting the investment agenda as a domestic investor and in future endeavors.
Paul Kyalimpa had been with UIA since 2020 and had previously contested independently for the MP seat of Buyanja County in Kibale district against Finance Minister Matia Kasaija, ultimately withdrawing from the race.
