By Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II of Buganda recently addressed his subjects via Zoom, providing reassurance about his health and affirming his imminent return to the kingdom. This virtual address comes in response to growing public demands for information about his whereabouts, despite regular updates from the Buganda Premier regarding his condition.
The Kabaka’s absence from the public eye, attributed to health reasons, has fueled numerous rumors, particularly on social media. However, his recent address has put many of these speculations to rest. Speaking directly to the people of Buganda, the Kabaka explained that his absence was under his doctors’ advice but emphasized that his condition is not concerning, and he is expected to return home soon.
During his address, the Kabaka expressed his awareness of the current events within his kingdom and thanked those who have upheld traditions during these challenging times. He also conveyed his gratitude to Buganda Prime Minister Charles Peter Mayiga and his ministers for their effective administration in his absence.
“We thank the Katikkiro and everyone involved in the kingdom administration for steering the wheel during this period,” the Kabaka stated.
Although he did not disclose his exact location, it was previously communicated that he is in Namibia. The Buganda Premier has been consistently updating the public on the Kabaka’s health, with the latest update provided at the Buganda Lukiiko.
