Police and other security agencies have expressed readiness to manage security during the double international summits, Non-Allied Movement (NAM), and G-77 summits
The double summits are set to run back to back with NAM running from the 15th – 20th of January and G-77 from the 21st – 23rd of January at Speakpeak Resort Munyonyo.
In a press briefing ahead of these summits, Enanga said the safety of the delegates is their number one priority.
Between 1,000 and 1,500 delegates are expected to start arriving in the country through the airport starting tomorrow ahead of the summits which will run back-to-back with NAM running from January 15 to 20 and G-77 from January 21 to 23.
Addressing the media ahead of the summits Police have revealed that a comprehensive security detail has been put in place. Enanga the police spokesperson says this ranges from the airport, traffic, marine, air surveillance, and VIP security detail.
Enanga also says this arrangement involves a mixture of overt and covert officers deployed in and around all venues, hotels, and routes.
He has asked the public to be cooperative with the current security changes thus assuring the delegate’s safety noting that currently there is no security threat towards the summit has been detected.
“We have put in place a comprehensive security arrangement, that considers several dimensions, ranging from the Airport security, marine security, management of convoys, access controls, security at venues and hotels, close protection, aerial surveillance for suspicious activity, first aid and quick medical response, crime prevention and proactive policing, public order management, and counter-terror measures, among others,” he said
In the same vein, SP Okobo Godfrey the Operations officer at the Fire and Rescue Department of Police says mini-emergency centers have been set up to respond to any emergencies.
