According to the Police Public Relations Officer for Wamala Region SSP Lameck Kigozi, the arrests were made at around 8:00 pm on Tuesday, when police, acting on intelligence, raided Nile Gardens in Kiboga Town Council. The suspects were reportedly mobilized from different villages within the constituency by an individual identified as Jimmy, described as a mobilizer for independent parliamentary candidate Muhamudu Kibuuka.
“The mobilizer managed to evade arrest by fleeing the scene. The suspects allege that their candidate was going to brief them on preparations for the upcoming elections. At the time police stormed the venue, the candidate had not yet arrived,” SSP Kigozi said.
The Police Public Relations Officer for Wamala Region used the opportunity to remind all political actors in the region that political gatherings must be conducted during the day and in accordance with the law.
The arrests come amid heightened security measures in the region as candidates intensify their campaigns for the parliamentary seat of Kiboga West constituency.
