ACP Kituuma Rusoke, Police spokesperson, said this while addressing the press on Monday at the police headquarters in Naguru.

“Only licensed blasters representing approved applicants are authorized to discharge fireworks. All displays must be publicly advertised in print and electronic media, including local FM radio stations and newspapers,” he said.

He added, “Venues will undergo prior inspections to ensure they are suitable for fireworks displays. Any event that fails to comply with these guidelines may be stopped immediately. Unused fireworks must be handled only by licensed explosives handlers.”

On overnight prayers, which are expected to attract large congregations, ACP Rusoke said: “We call upon all organizers to strictly follow the issued guidelines and work closely with the police and other relevant authorities to ensure the safety and security of all participants.”

On road safety, he warned: “As people travel back to the cities or visit their villages after January 1, we urge all road users to exercise caution and responsibility while on the road.”

ACP Rusoke also cautioned the public against unsafe celebrations, noting: “Members of the public should not burn tires or fire shots into the air. These actions pose serious risks to public safety and damage our infrastructure.”

He retaliated against the Uganda Police and other security agencies’ commitment to a safe, peaceful, and enjoyable festive season, urging citizens to celebrate responsibly and remain vigilant.
