The accident happened at about 4:30 a.m. at Njagalakasayi and involved a Fuso Fighter truck, registration number UBP 510V, and a Toyota Fielder, registration number UBH 476W.
According to preliminary police investigations, the driver of the Toyota Fielder, who was travelling from the Masaka side, attempted to overtake a queue of vehicles before colliding head-on with the oncoming Fuso truck.
All seven occupants of the Toyota Fielder died on the spot. The deceased included a man, his wife, their four children, and the man’s brother.
Police said investigations into the crash are ongoing as traffic officers work to establish further circumstances surrounding the incident.
In a statement issued after the crash, the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety spokesperson Michael Kananura, urged motorists to refrain from reckless overtaking, particularly at night when visibility is poor.
Drivers were also advised to limit travel where possible and ensure they are well-rested to avoid fatigue-related accidents.
