Inspector General of Police Abas Byakagaba has assured Ugandans of heightened security during the Christmas and New Year festivities, noting that this year’s celebrations coincide with the ongoing 2026 General Elections period.
In a Christmas message released on Tuesday, Byakagaba extended festive greetings to Ugandans and residents, wishing them peace, joy and meaningful celebrations with family and loved ones.

“With only a few days left to Christmas and as we prepare to welcome the New Year 2026, the Uganda Police Force extends heartfelt greetings to all Ugandans and residents,” Byakagaba said.
He noted that the festive season comes at a sensitive time politically, prompting all security agencies to heighten vigilance to ensure public safety and order across the country.
“All security agencies are on heightened alert to guarantee that celebrations across the country take place in a peaceful, safe and orderly environment,” he said.
The police chief reaffirmed the Uganda Police Force’s commitment, alongside sister security agencies, to safeguarding the lives and property of citizens throughout the festive period.
Byakagaba urged members of the public to celebrate responsibly, remain alert, and cooperate with security personnel deployed in various parts of the country.
“We encourage everyone to celebrate responsibly, remain vigilant, and cooperate with security personnel as we work together to ensure a joyous and secure festive season for all,” he said.
The police have in recent weeks intensified patrols and security deployments nationwide as Uganda heads into the final stretch of the election period, which authorities say requires extra vigilance to maintain peace and stability.
