Prince Kassim Nakibinge Urges Calm, Respect for Law Ahead of 2026 Polls

Muslim titular leader Prince Kassim Nakibinge has called on Ugandans to remain calm, law-abiding and peaceful as the country prepares for the 2026 General Elections, urging both citizens and security agencies to act with restraint.

Prince Nakibinge made the appeal on Monday while hosting the National Unity Platform (NUP) leadership, led by its presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi, at his residence in Kibuli.

Addressing the media after the meeting, the Muslim leader urged Ugandans to listen to all presidential candidates, assess their messages and participate peacefully in the electoral process.

“We appeal to all Ugandans to give audience to all the presidential candidates, listen to them, internalise their message, and on the voting day come out in large numbers and vote for the candidate they believe meets their aspirations,” Prince Nakibinge said.

He particularly cautioned young people against engaging in violence, noting that elections are temporary but the country endures beyond electoral cycles.

“Elections come and go. Uganda was here before and will always be here. Let us be discreet and observe the rule of law,” he said.

Prince Nakibinge also called on security forces to act professionally and without bias, urging them to respect citizens’ rights and fulfil their constitutional mandate.

“I wish to ask, through the command structure of the armed forces, to be law-abiding and to provide security to all Ugandans without bias,” he said, adding that loss of life and property during elections must be avoided.

He further appealed to the Electoral Commission to organise free and fair elections and to remain non-partisan so that voters can participate with confidence.

On his part, NUP presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi thanked Prince Nakibinge for hosting the delegation and praised his moral leadership, particularly his advocacy for justice, fairness and human rights.

Kyagulanyi said the opposition leader pledged to remain law-abiding during and after the campaigns and committed to upholding democratic values if elected into office.

“We promised him that once we are voted into government, we shall uphold those values and be the leaders the country has always wanted,” Kyagulanyi said.

The meeting forms part of Kyagulanyi’s engagements with cultural and religious leaders as the opposition intensifies its preparations for the 2026 elections.
