Police said the suspect, identified as Emma, also known as “Young,” a 30-year-old Burundian national and resident of the area, allegedly attacked and killed two fellow Burundian male adults aged approximately 30 and 20 years.

Preliminary findings indicate that the first victim was attacked while returning from work as a hawker and died instantly after his neck was cut. The suspect is then reported to have moved about 300 metres to the second victim’s residence, where he attacked him while asleep, causing instant death in a similar manner.

After the attacks, the suspect reportedly turned the weapon on himself, inflicting severe injuries by cutting his neck. Members of the public restrained him and alerted Police, who found him in critical condition and rushed him to Mulago National Referral Hospital, where he remains under police guard.

Police officers visited and documented both crime scenes, recovered two knives believed to have been used in the attacks, recorded statements from witnesses and conveyed the bodies to the city mortuary for postmortem examination.

ASP Owoyesigyire said efforts are ongoing to positively identify the victims and trace their next of kin, as investigations continue to establish the motive and circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police said further updates will be provided as inquiries progress.
