By Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Nathan Nandala Mafabi has promised to revive coffee and cotton production in Teso, saying the two cash crops can help transform household incomes in the sub-region.
Mafabi made the pledge while campaigning in Ongiji, Okoboi, Serere Upper Shops, Ikona Iyaredi, Awoja and several other trading centres in Kateta Sub-county, Serere District.

He said introducing large-scale coffee growing and restoring the once-vibrant cotton sector would give farmers a stable source of income, reduce poverty and open new market opportunities for the region.
The FDC candidate criticised the current government for what he described as years of neglect, citing poor roads, unreliable power supply and limited economic opportunities in Teso.
He also promised support to small traders and fishermen, saying his government would provide fridges and other equipment to help them preserve goods and minimise losses.
Mafabi outlined the FDC’s broader commitments for Teso, including improving health and education services, fixing critical infrastructure and providing monthly stipends to elderly citizens. He also pledged compensation for families who lost relatives and property in past conflicts.
He urged residents to vote for the FDC and its candidates, saying the party offers a credible plan to revive the region’s economy and restore dignity to communities that have long felt left behind.
