Gen. Kainerugaba Inspects Newly Completed Hoima City Stadium Ahead of Commissioning

The Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, on Thursday conducted an inspection tour of the newly constructed Hoima City Stadium, completed five months ahead of schedule.

The visit comes ahead of the facility’s official commissioning by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. Gen. Kainerugaba was guided through the stadium by Project Manager Murat Altun, who showcased its modern design and amenities.

The 20,000-seat multi-purpose stadium features VIP facilities, a semi-Olympic swimming pool, modern changing rooms, an external training pitch, and a 2,000-seat indoor arena with a basketball court.

Key government and project officials attended the tour, including SUUMA Chairman Selim Bora, CEO Envar Sayan, Minister of State for Sports Peter Ogwang, the Chairman of the National Council of Sports, and the Mayor of Hoima City.

During the inspection, Gen. Kainerugaba stressed the need to maintain the stadium’s high standards. He urged Hon. Ogwang and the National Council of Sports to ensure similar world-class quality in future sports infrastructure projects.

The Hoima City Stadium is one of three national venues earmarked for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which Uganda will co-host with Kenya and Tanzania. Its completion marks a major step in meeting the country’s tournament obligations.

Gen. Kainerugaba reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening sports development, saying that investing in top-tier facilities is crucial for nurturing talent and improving Uganda’s competitiveness on the international stage.

The government considers the stadium a strategic investment aimed at boosting sports, stimulating regional growth in the Hoima economic corridor, and fulfilling Uganda’s AFCON 2027 hosting commitments.
