By Women constitute the largest portion of Uganda’s 21.6 million registered voters, according to new registration figures released by the Electoral Commission (EC) as it updates the country on the 2026 General Election roadmap.
Releasing the latest statistics on Wednesday, EC Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama said the final voter register now stands at 21,660,547 voters, reflecting a steady rise driven by new registrations during the 2025 update exercise and the inclusion of citizens who recently turned 18.

Of the total voters, 11.2 million are women, representing slightly over 51 percent of the entire roll an edge the EC says has remained consistent over the last three electoral cycles.
Justice Byabakama said the Commission is now in the final stages of cleaning and reorganizing the register ahead of nomination processes and the printing of polling materials. He noted that the updated roll reflects improved national coverage despite persistent challenges, particularly in the issuance and renewal of National IDs.
He reassured the public that the EC is working with the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) to accelerate pending ID applications and ensure that as many eligible citizens as possible are able to vote.
The Chairperson also confirmed that the Commission has completed key milestones in the roadmap, including stakeholder engagements, constituency assessments, procurement processes, and preparations for nomination centres across the country.
He urged political actors to conduct peaceful campaigns and appealed to the public to verify their voter details once the register is displayed at polling stations.
“As we move into the critical stages of the electoral programme, the Commission calls on all Ugandans to participate peacefully and responsibly,” he said.
Uganda heads to the polls in January 2026 to elect the President, Members of Parliament, and local government leaders.
