By A police officer attached to Ntawo Police Post in Mukono District was on Sunday night shot dead by unknown assailants in a late–night raid on the post.
The deceased, identified as Emma Bagenda, was attacked at around 11:00pm alongside a colleague who survived but sustained critical injuries.
According to area councillor John Ssebuya, the officer in charge (OC) had earlier received a phone call from unidentified individuals claiming there were robbers operating in the area, prompting him to respond.
“The OC, who was with another police officer, was targeted and killed, and his colleague was shot and left in critical condition,” Mr Ssebuya said.
An eyewitness, Annet Mutesi, said the attackers shot the officer four times. “He tried to take off after being shot once, but they ran after him and shot him again about 150 metres from the police post,” she recounted.
The motive behind the attack remains unknown, and police have launched investigations into the killing.
