Police in Kampala Metropolitan East and North are investigating two separate incidents involving a missing juvenile and the discovery of a decomposing body in Kyampisi Subcounty, authorities said on Sunday.
The first case was reported at Wandegeya Police Station on 6 November 2025 by Kamuganga Sarah, who said her daughter, Aneza Merisa, had gone missing.
Four days later, on 10 November, police in Nagalama responded to a report of a decomposing body found in Musaale Swamp, Namulaba Village, Kyampisi Subcounty. The female body was discovered wearing a navy-blue student skirt with the label “Nanyonga VII.” Police say the specific school is yet to be identified, and efforts are underway to contact nearby institutions to determine whether any learners are missing.

Due to its advanced state of decomposition, the body was buried by mortuary staff in Kayunga, in line with public health guidelines. When the family of the missing girl learnt of the recovery, they suspected the remains could belong to their daughter, though this has not been confirmed.
Police said the family has not physically viewed the body, making identification impossible without scientific analysis.
Investigators have now applied for a court order to exhume the body so that DNA samples can be taken to determine whether it is that of Aneza Merisa.
“We appeal to the general public to remain calm, as investigations have not yet established any connection between the missing juvenile and the body recovered in Nagalama,” said ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police.
Police said further updates will be issued once more information is available.
