Mafabi Slams Gov’t Over ‘Protected Corruption’ After Lugolobi Charges Dropped

FDC presidential candidate Nathan Nandala Mafabi has intensified his criticism of President Museveni’s administration, accusing the government of shielding officials implicated in corruption  remarks he made just days after the Anti-Corruption Court withdrew all iron sheet theft charges against State Minister Amos Lugolobi.

Campaigning in Alibo Subcounty in Madi-Okolo District, Mafabi said the latest development confirms that government has no intention of punishing those who abuse public resources.

“Where we have reached, even President Museveni accepts that corruption exists, but he has failed to stop it,” Mafabi told supporters. “Now you see what happened with the iron sheets case. One by one, the corrupt are being protected.”

He argued that the dropping of charges against Lugolobi validates his long-standing accusation that top officials are insulated from accountability.

“These people steal openly because they know nothing will happen to them,” he said. “Give me the mandate, and I will end this system that has stolen from you for 40 years.”

Mafabi, who has served 25 years in Parliament representing Budadiri West, said he remains the most capable candidate to lead Uganda, citing his professional experience across law, accounting, teaching, auditing, farming and tax administration.

“Among all the eight presidential candidates, I am the most qualified, the most experienced, and the most exposed,” he said. “I know exactly what must be done to end corruption in this country.”

His remarks come as opposition candidates intensify campaigns in northern Uganda, where corruption, service delivery and equitable development remain dominant political concerns ahead of next year’s general elections.
