“I want to thank you for the sacrifice you have made for the people of Somalia. You have given our soldiers great morale to defend their country,” he said.
He also expressed gratitude to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the Government of Uganda for their continued support to Somalia’s stabilization efforts.
The Somali Defence Chief noted that residents of Barawe appreciate the peace and security maintained by the UPDF and pledged ongoing cooperation with both the Somali National Armed Forces and AUSSOM troops. He revealed that SNAF has intensified civil–military cooperation programs to strengthen trust and collaboration with local communities.
On his part, Lt Col Geoffrey Ochan, Commander of the UPDF 145 Battalion, thanked the people of Barawe for their cooperation, which he said had enabled AUSSOM forces to effectively execute their mandate.
“We have not encountered any problems with the civilians in this area, and we commend them for their continued cooperation,” Lt Col Ochan said.
He urged Somali troops and civilians to demonstrate patriotism, saying national unity and love for their country would help defeat Al-Shabaab and spur Somalia’s economic transformation.
Lt Col Ochan reaffirmed the UPDF’s commitment to supporting the Somali people in their pursuit of lasting peace and stability.
The meeting was also attended by Maj David Okema, the Battle Group 45 Operations Officer, along with senior and junior officers from both the UPDF and SNAF.
