Manchester United snatched a dramatic 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday, thanks to a 96th-minute header from defender Matthijs de Ligt that denied the hosts all three points.
The Premier League clash, which began as a cagey affair, came to life in the closing stages with a flurry of late goals. Bryan Mbuemo opened the scoring for United in the 32nd minute, nodding in Amad Diallo’s cross at the far post after Spurs failed to clear their lines.
Tottenham looked short of ideas in the first half but returned from the break with renewed energy. Substitute Mathys Tel levelled matters in the 84th minute, finishing confidently after a sustained spell of pressure. Moments later, Richarlison appeared to have won it for Spurs with a header in the first minute of stoppage time, sending the home fans into raptures.

However, United refused to give up. Deep into added time, De Ligt rose highest to power home a header from a corner in the 96th minute, earning his side a vital point and silencing the home crowd.
“I think it was the right time to score,” De Ligt said after the match. “Luckily we got a point, but I felt we deserved more with the way we played in the second half. I’m proud of the team for how we fought back — you can see we still have the fire in our belly.”
For Tottenham manager Frank, there were positives despite the late setback. “A very big positive from this game is the second half,” he said. “We stuck to the game plan, the structure, and kept believing. Of course you’re disappointed when you don’t win 11 against 10, but that’s football.”
Spurs’ goal-scorer Tel echoed his manager’s sentiments. “We changed the game and showed great mentality, but we are mad because we have to win today. We deserved to win,” he said.
The result saw Spurs climb provisionally to third in the table with 18 points, while Manchester United moved to seventh with the same tally, maintaining their five-match unbeaten run under manager Rúben Amorim — the first such streak of his tenure.
Former United striker Dimitar Berbatov called the result “fair,” though lamented missed opportunities. “Man Utd were leading 1-0, controlling the game, then they found themselves 2-1 down,” he said. “They missed their opportunity to be in the top two.”
What began as a subdued encounter ended in high drama, with both sides sharing the spoils in north London — and plenty of lessons for the battles ahead in a tightly contested Premier League race.
