Businessman Charged for Forging Museveni’s Signature

A Kampala businessman, Male Nicholus, has been remanded to prison until November 17, 2025, after appearing before the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court on charges of forgery and uttering false documents.

Prosecution alleges that on September 18, 2025, Male, with intent to defraud or deceive, forged and presented a letter purportedly signed by the President of Uganda. The document, dated August 15, 2025, was addressed to the Minister of Works and Transport, directing the renewal of a contract for Nation Oil Distributors Limited to continue managing MV Kalangala for another 15 years.

Investigators say the letter was entirely falsified and that the accused allegedly delivered it to the Ministry of Works and Transport, the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, and to the offices of Nation Oil Distributors Limited in Ndeba.

The prosecution further contends that Male had previously approached the company’s Director, claiming to be an official connected to the Office of the Prime Minister and well-acquainted with several senior government figures. He allegedly promised to help secure the renewal of the company’s ferry management contract in exchange for undisclosed benefits.

The alleged forgery was later detected after verification revealed that the President’s Office had not issued such a directive.

Male denied the charges when they were read to him in court. The presiding magistrate ordered that he be remanded pending further investigations and legal advice from the Resident State Attorney.

The case underscores growing concerns over the rise in the use of falsified official documents to influence government contracts and decisions.
