National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, better known as Bobi Wine, has narrated a Tuesday night incident in which police allegedly raided his hotel in Lira Town, claiming to be searching for stolen security equipment.
Speaking on Wednesday morning, Kyagulanyi said the raid occurred at Tembo Trek Courts, where he and his campaign team were resting after rallies in Otuke and Alebtong districts.
“The police and military surrounded the hotel late in the night, blocked all exits, and demanded access to our rooms,” Kyagulanyi recounted. “They claimed they were looking for their gadgets a tower, a laptop, a camera sensor, and a bag which they alleged were stolen by one of our comrades.”

He said the security forces ransacked the premises and arrested at least ten members of his campaign team, whose car was towed to Lira Central Police Station.
Kyagulanyi also revealed that his sound engineer, Daniel “Dan Magic,” was hospitalized after suffering complications linked to tear gas exposure earlier in the day. “Dan Magic developed a severe headache and is now admitted, but we hope he will recover and rejoin us soon,” he said.
The NUP leader expressed frustration that when they attempted to report the matter to Lira Police, officers refused to record their statement.
“I spoke to Afande Nkore, the head of police in Lango and Teso, and questioned why Lira Police declined to receive our complaint. We are law-abiding citizens who just want to campaign peacefully,” Kyagulanyi said.
He described the incident as part of a recurring pattern of intimidation aimed at weakening his campaign team, accusing security agencies of working to isolate him and suppress his message.
“This is the usual strategy by Museveni’s regime — they allow us to campaign at first, then later start arresting my team members to frustrate our efforts,” Kyagulanyi added.
Despite the disruption, Kyagulanyi said he would not be deterred and announced plans to proceed to Karamoja for his next campaign rallies.
By press time, police had not issued a statement on the alleged raid.
