Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential flag bearer Nathan Nandala Mafabi has vowed to ban the importation of juice into Uganda if elected president, saying the country’s fruit farmers have the potential to fully supply the domestic market and even export.
Addressing a campaign rally in Kapelebyong District, Mafabi said Uganda’s fertile soils and diverse fruit production offer no justification for importing juice.

“We grow mangoes, oranges, pineapples, and passion fruits in plenty, but they rot because the government has not invested in processing and value addition,” Mafabi said. “Once I become president, we shall stop importing juice and instead build factories that buy from our farmers.”
He said his administration would prioritize agro-processing and ensure that farmers benefit directly from their produce.
“Our people work hard, but they remain poor because they sell raw produce. That will end under my leadership. We shall make sure the farmer earns from the sweat of his brow,” Mafabi told cheering supporters.
Mafabi criticized the current government for what he called neglect of the agricultural sector, despite Uganda being an agrarian economy.
“Agriculture employs over 70 percent of Ugandans, yet government budgets more for luxury than for farming,” he said.
“Poverty will be history during my leadership because we shall invest where it matters most in the people.”
The FDC presidential candidate also pledged to expand access to electricity for both homes and industries, improve road networks, and revamp the railway system to ease transport of goods and agricultural produce.
He said education and healthcare would also be central pillars of his government. “No child should study on an empty stomach,” he said. “We shall ensure that every school provides meals so that children can concentrate and perform better.” “Hospitals will have drugs and the equipment needed to save lives. Ugandans deserve better,” he added.
Mafabi, who is also the Member of Parliament for Budadiri West and an advisor to the World Bank, said his experience in financial management and development programs has prepared him to lead Uganda into a new era of accountability and productivity.
“I have worked with the World Bank and managed public finances. I know where the leakages are, and I will close them. Uganda’s money must work for Ugandans,” he said.
Mafabi continues his campaign tour of the eastern region, where he is rallying support for his presidential bid ahead of the 2026 General Election.
