UNEB Warns of Fake PLE Papers Circulating Online

The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has warned the public against fraudulent individuals and groups circulating fake Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) papers on social media platforms ahead of this year’s exams.

Addressing journalists during a press briefing at Police Headquarters in Naguru on Monday, Ms. Jennifer Kaule Musamba, the UNEB Principal Public Relations Officer, said several WhatsApp groups and online forums have emerged, claiming to have access to authentic examination papers.

“We have seen a number of people masquerading as UNEB officials or exam dealers, circulating what they call ‘live PLE papers.’ These are fake and illegal. We are monitoring these groups with the Uganda Police, and anyone caught engaging in such activities will face prosecution,” Musaba cautioned.

She urged members of the public not to forward or share any material purporting to be examination papers, warning that such actions also amount to an offense under the UNEB Act. “If such content comes to your phone, delete it immediately. The moment you forward it, you too become culpable,” she said.

Musaba assured parents, schools, and candidates that UNEB’s security systems are intact and no one will gain unauthorized access to examination materials. “Our examination security is guaranteed. Nobody is going to access any of our papers,” she emphasized.

The UNEB spokesperson also revealed that briefing sessions for all PLE candidates will take place on Friday, October 31, at their respective examination centres. Head teachers are required to personally conduct these briefings to ensure candidates fully understand the rules and avoid malpractice.

This year, 817,930 candidates have been registered to sit for the PLE, with 52.3 percent female and 47.7 percent male. UNEB has deployed 150 monitors across the country to oversee supervision and ensure smooth conduct of the exams.

Musaba also appealed to parents to attend the briefing sessions and remind their children to remain disciplined. “Parents should support their candidates, pray for them, and ensure they do not get involved in any form of malpractice,” she added.

The PLE examinations officially begin next week following the national briefing exercise.
