With just three days to the official launch of presidential campaigns, the Electoral Commission (EC) has warned candidates against defying the agreed campaign roadmap, saying clashes over venues and dates could disrupt peace and order.
On Friday, the EC summoned representatives of the eight presidential contenders to its headquarters in Kampala for a harmonisation meeting. The session, chaired by EC Chairperson Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama, was aimed at ironing out overlapping schedules and mapping out campaign routes across the country.

EC spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi said the exercise was critical in ensuring that campaigns are conducted smoothly.
“Once the programme has been signed off, we expect each candidate to respect it and abide by it. This is the only way we can avoid scenarios where two or more candidates end up in the same venue on the same day,” Mucunguzi said.
He added that the harmonisation will produce a master campaign programme covering all eight candidates, placing them on different schedules to ensure coordination.
The EC has stressed that maintaining order is essential not just for candidates, but also for voters and security personnel who will be deployed during campaigns.
Campaigns for the 2026 elections will officially start on September 29, 2025, and run until early January 2026, ahead of polling.
