National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential flag bearer Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, will be nominated on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., after the Electoral Commission (EC) confirmed verification of his supporters’ signatures.
The announcement was made by NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya, who presented the certificate of verification to party supporters in Kampala on Friday.
“We now have in our hands a certificate confirming that our presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi has all the required signatures. That is the good news. But the bad news is that the EC has pushed his nomination to September 24 at 2:00 p.m.,” Rubongoya told journalists.

According to Rubongoya, the party had initially booked Tuesday, September 23, at 10:00 a.m. for Kyagulanyi’s nomination, followed by two rallies — one at noon and another at 4:30 p.m. He accused the Commission of deliberately altering the schedule to frustrate NUP’s campaign plans.
Kyagulanyi echoed the same concerns in a social media post, alleging that the delay was politically motivated to avoid his nomination coinciding with that of President Yoweri Museveni.
“As predicted by many Ugandans, the ridiculous claims about us not submitting enough signatures were intended to push our nomination. The cowardly regime did not want us to be nominated on the same day as Museveni,” Kyagulanyi wrote.
He revealed that although the EC issued a certificate dated September 19, the Commission only communicated on the night of that day that NUP lacked enough signatures. The party subsequently submitted additional signatures on September 20 and 21, despite already being in compliance.
“Pushing it to 2:00 p.m. is clearly intended to frustrate our plans to have two rallies. But since we know how they normally behave, we had already booked Katwe Grounds and Kaala Playground in Nateete for both dates. Nothing will stop the revolutionary cause,” Kyagulanyi added.
The development comes after weeks of uncertainty, during which the EC claimed NUP had not secured the minimum endorsements from at least 98 districts. The Commission later confirmed the party had surpassed the threshold.
Kyagulanyi’s nomination is expected to draw massive crowds, setting the stage for a heated 2026 presidential race between the incumbent President Museveni and his main challenger.
