Bobi Wine Calls Supporters to Replace Signatures After EC Block

National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, has called on his supporters to urgently replace endorsement signatures after the Electoral Commission (EC) declared that his presidential nomination papers lacked sufficient backing.

In an urgent social media post on Friday, Kyagulanyi said the EC had informed NUP that it had fallen short of the required signatures from several districts, despite the party submitting “more than enough.” He described the development as a deliberate attempt to frustrate his 2026 presidential bid.

“In the most partisan manner, the Electoral Commission is indicating that we haven’t submitted enough signatures for my nomination as President from the districts listed below. This, after submitting more than enough signatures per district,” Kyagulanyi wrote.

He accused security operatives, including GISOs, DISOs, and RDCs, of intimidating citizens who endorsed him. “Shamelessly, GISOs, DISOs, RDCs have been reaching out to all those who signed for us, intimidating them and threatening them. Then the EC says it called them and they denied having signed for us and therefore removed them from the list. Criminals!” he charged.

Kyagulanyi appealed to registered voters from the affected districts to present themselves at the NUP headquarters in Makerere-Kavule on Saturday between 8:00am and 11:00am to provide new signatures. “Our nomination is on Tuesday, 23rd September, 2025,” he said.

Among the districts flagged by the EC are Alebtong, Amuru, Bushenyi, Gulu City, Iganga, Ntungamo, Soroti, Yumbe, Arua, Mbarara, and 25 others.

Under the law, a presidential aspirant must secure at least 100 signatures from 98 districts to qualify for nomination. Presidential nominations will take place on September 23–24 at the EC headquarters in Kampala.

The EC has not yet responded publicly to Kyagulanyi’s accusations. President Yoweri Museveni and a few other aspirants have already been cleared.

The standoff has heightened tensions just days before the nomination window closes, with NUP warning that its candidate risks being unfairly excluded from the 2026 race.
