The Minister of Internal Affairs, Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Kahinda Otafiire, has directed police not to interfere with the planned homecoming celebrations of First Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, scheduled for Friday, September 19, 2025, in Busoga.
In a letter marked “Very Urgent” and addressed to the Inspector General of Police, Otafiire confirmed that Kadaga will be travelling back to Busoga and that residents have organized celebrations to receive her.
The minister noted reports of attempts by police to stop the event, warning that such actions could spark unrest given the current politically charged environment.
“Stopping her may easily result in unrest and riots,” Otafiire cautioned, stressing that police should instead focus on ensuring security during the celebrations.
He further reminded the Force that its conduct should not provide any excuse for public disorder or insurrection.
Kadaga’s homecoming comes amid heightened political speculation surrounding her future, though she recently dismissed social media claims that she intends to contest for the presidency, affirming that she will only seek re-election as Woman MP for Kamuli District.
