NRM Secretariat Rallies Pressure Groups Ahead of Museveni Nomination

The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretariat has begun intensive mobilization ahead of President Yoweri Museveni’s expected nomination for the 2026 general elections, with top officials meeting pressure groups to forge a united campaign strategy.

The meeting, held Thursday at the party headquarters in Kampala, was chaired by NRM National Treasurer, Ambassador Barbara Nekesa, and organized by the party’s Department of Mobilization. Nekesa said the session was aimed at harmonizing the efforts of several pro-Museveni mobilization groups across the country.

“We invited you here to discuss how we can cooperate to forge a joint campaign task force team that will traverse the country seeking support for President Museveni,” she told participants.

She called on the groups to mobilize Ugandans to attend the September 23rd rally at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, which will follow Museveni’s nomination by the Electoral Commission.
“I want us to mobilize Ugandans who will fill Kololo Grounds to capacity. The city must be painted all yellow because NRM is big,” Nekesa said.

The treasurer also revealed that the Secretariat would on Friday deliver more than 2.2 million signatures collected in support of Museveni’s nomination, far exceeding the Electoral Commission’s requirement of 100 signatures per district. “This shows that the NRM is way bigger than any other political group,” she added.

On policy, Nekesa emphasized that Museveni’s next term is crucial for consolidating socio-economic transformation. She tasked mobilizers to spread the message of government empowerment programs such as the Parish Development Model and Emyooga.

Dr. Rosemary Seninde, the party’s Director of Mobilization, applauded the volunteer pressure groups for their commitment to Museveni’s re-election bid.
“You are good cadres because you have committed to campaign for the interests of President Museveni without expectations,” Seninde said, pledging the party’s backing.

NRM’s Director of Finance and Administration, Hajjat Medina Naham, echoed the call for grassroots empowerment, noting that “ordinary people should be given a clear message to fight household poverty through embracing government programs.”

She expressed delight at the nationwide representation in the meeting. “It makes me happy that we are on the right track when I see people from Kazo, Mbarara, Karamoja, Arua, and Iganga, among other areas,” she said.

Maj. (Rtd) Awich Pollar, the Director of External Affairs, urged mobilizers to “remain firm, steady, fast, and disciplined” while promoting NRM’s achievements.
“Be a great ambassador of the party by maintaining discipline during mobilization activities,” Awich advised.

The NRM Secretariat says the joint campaign task force to be established will lead countrywide mobilization as Museveni seeks another term in office.
