Police in Katwe have arrested 35 suspects in a targeted operation against criminal gangs accused of stealing motorcycles and violently robbing boda boda riders in Wansanso Zone, Kibuye II Parish, Makindye Division.
The intelligence-led crackdown, conducted on the afternoon of August 12, 2025, followed public complaints over a surge in motorcycle thefts in the area. Police say the suspects were apprehended from garages believed to be dealing in stolen motorcycles and spare parts.

During the raid, security teams recovered nine Bajaj Boxer motorcycles — some with registration numbers UFL 083U, UFW 693H, UET 495A, UFU 306W, UDS 592K, UFA 841M, UEL 401N, UFC 050L and one without a number plate. Several dismantled motorcycle parts were also impounded.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy PRO ASP Luke Owoyesigyire said investigations are ongoing and the suspects will be charged in court. He added that police will continue collaborating with local leaders and vigilante groups to dismantle criminal networks and restore safety for motorcycle operators.
“We remain committed to ensuring that boda boda riders operate in a safe environment free from violent robberies,” Owoyesigyire said.
