CHAN 2024: Uganda Promises Affordable Ticket Prices for Fans

The Local Organising Committee for the upcoming TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 has assured fans that ticket prices for the continental tournament will remain highly affordable.

Speaking during a media briefing in Kampala, Dr. Denis Mugimba, spokesperson for the Ministry of Education and Sports, revealed that the ticketing strategy will follow a three-tier system, with prices set at $1, $2, and $3 for Tier One, Two, and Three respectively.

“The proposal from the three host countries Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania was to adopt a three-tier ticketing model. Each country is required to align the rates with its local exchange rate,” Dr. Mugimba explained.

He added that Uganda deliberately opted for very low ticket prices to make the tournament accessible to ordinary citizens. “The rates are extremely affordable, even for VVIP tickets. This was our decision to ensure as many Ugandans as possible can attend the matches,” Mugimba said, without revealing exact figures in Uganda shillings, as the final announcement will come from CAF this week.

The tournament, scheduled for early 2024, will feature national teams composed of players from domestic leagues across Africa. Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania are co-hosting the event, which aims to showcase local football talent while boosting regional tourism and economic activity.

With ticket prices set to be among the lowest in the tournament’s history, organizers expect massive attendance in Uganda’s host cities.
