Museveni Warns Public Servants: Corruption Will Not Be Tolerated

President Yoweri Museveni has issued a stern warning to public servants, declaring that corruption will not be tolerated as it undermines Uganda’s development agenda.

Addressing thousands of civil servants and dignitaries gathered at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds for the 14th Africa Public Service Day, Museveni urged government employees to align themselves with the National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) pro-people agenda and reject corruption in all its forms.

“Corruption slows down Uganda’s development. However, this will not be tolerated by the patriots who fought for the liberation of Uganda and Africa,” Museveni said firmly.

The President criticized the theft of drugs from government health facilities, the abuse of wealth creation funds, and general inefficiency in public service delivery. He tasked public servants with upholding their roles in improving the livelihoods of ordinary Ugandans through free education, accessible healthcare, and proper implementation of poverty-alleviation programs like the Parish Development Model, Emyooga, and the Youth and Women Funds.

“A modern economy cannot function without an efficient public service,” he said, emphasizing that civil servants are crucial in eliminating subsistence farming and modernizing Uganda’s economy.

Museveni noted that while significant investments have been made in infrastructure roads, electricity, and industrial parks real transformation depends on effective service delivery and the ethical conduct of government officials.

He further reiterated that public servants must support peace, stability, and economic growth by resisting temptations that divert resources away from Ugandan households.

“I want to assure you that Uganda’s progress is unstoppable,” Museveni declared, “but only if public officials reject corruption and commit to the country’s transformation.”

The President’s remarks come at a time when public scrutiny over misuse of government funds is increasing. His call sets the tone for renewed accountability as Uganda pushes toward middle-income status.

Africa Public Service Day, commemorated across the continent, celebrates the contribution of public sector workers to national development. This year’s event drew participants from across Uganda’s ministries, agencies, and districts, with exhibitions and sports events highlighting innovation in public service.
